872,460. Hydraulic presses. FIELDING & PLATT Ltd., ROWLES, R. V., GOWING, B. T., and McKENZIE, J. Sept. 25, 1957 [Sept. 26, 1956], No. 29458/56. Class 69 (2). A press has three ram pressure faces, a main face 2 which is always open to pressure tending to make it perform its stroke, and a restraining face 3 and a power saving face 4 which both tend to force the ram in the opposite direction. When pressure is admitted to all three faces the forces acting on them are in the ratio of, for example, 100: 90: 20, so that the ram is restrained. If the pressure is removed from face 4, the approach stroke takes place under the resultant force of face 10. For the working stroke, only the force of 100 on the face 2 is applied. The return stroke is effected by bringing into action again the faces 3 and 4. Specifications 749,571 and 763,631 are referred to.
