Abstract

851,981. Workmen's safety pulley blocks. SALA MASKINFABRIKS A.B. Nov. 12, 1958 [Jan. 22, 1958], No. 36450/58. Class 78 (2). [Also in Group XXXIV] Cable 3 is secured to a workman so as to prevent injury if he falls. The cable is wound on sheave 12, the housing 5 of which is secured to a fixed point at 2, and when the sheave rotates at a predetermined speed, pawl or pawls 19 (not shown) pivotally mounted on the sheave, swing outwards to engage ratchet 23. The latter is formed as a screw-threaded annulus so that the continued rotation of the sheave screws the ratchet to the right against elastic washers 25. The effect is to gradually brake the sheave to stop the fall of the man. Pin 29 indicates when the brake has been applied and the apparatus is then re-set by taking off lid 6. Spring-biased pin 33 may be released to engage with shoulder 34 when the device is used as a supporting cable of fixed length.
