Abstract
851,436. Vehicle window operating apparatus. FORD MOTOR CO Ltd. (Ford Motor Co.). May 1, 1959, No. 14903/59. Class 20(3) In a power-operated regulator for moving a vehicle window between its open and closed positions between a well in the body of the vehicle and a window opening in a compound path predetermined by guide tracks a reversible motor is secured to the lower edge of the window panel and is drivingly coupled to a guide track and travels with the panel as it is raised or lowered. As shown, a reversible motor 18 is slidingly secured to the lower bar 13 of a vehicle window panel 11 and is drivingly engaged through gearing 36 of which a pinion 33 engages with the teeth 32 of a guide channel 28. The lower bar 13 has depending leg portions 14, 16 each provided with rollers 19 slidably received within guide tracks 21, 22 of channel cross-section and shaped together with the channel 28 longitudinally in accordance with the path of movement of the window desired. The pinion 33 is provided with a groove 38, Fig. 2 adapted to bear against a rolled edge 39 of flange 37 of the guide channel 28. In Fig. 3, (not shown) the track 28 has a horizontal central portion which supports the dead weight of the panel and motor unit during the transfer of the pivot fulcrum from the lower end of the guide 27 to the upper end of the guide 23 or conversely as the window is raised or lowered. Fig. 4 (not shown) shows an embodiment in which the panel is moved rearwardly and then downwardly with only slight longitudinal tilt being imparted. Fig. 5 (not shown) illustrates an embodiment having simple straight guide tracks and Fig. 7 (not shown) one having a single arcuately curved guide track for a window moving about a fixed pivot. These guide tracks may possess a lateral curvature for laterally curved panels. Figs. 4, 5, 6 and 7 show different embodiments in which the reversible motor and its gearing mechanism are rigidly fixed to the lower bar of the window.
