A device for depositing pellets in the soil comprises a container for the pellets and means for controlling their delivery from the container, said means comprising an elastically restricted outlet. The pellets are fed under gravity from the container via the side tube 3 to the main vertical tube 4, the tube 4 housing a manually operated plunger 6 and being covered at its lower end by a tube 5 of resilient material, this in turn being protected by a metal sleeve 13. When the plunger is depressed to push the column of pellets in the tube 4 downwards, the lowermost pellet is forced through the resilient tube 5, the movement of the plunger being restricted by a pin and slot arrangement 8, 9 to ensure that only one pellet is discharged at a time. When the plunger is retracted, another pellet enters the tube 4 from the side tube 3. The container may be provided with a spiral guide 2 leading into the tube 3, and a stop 14 is provided on the lower end of the main tube to limit its penetration into the soil. In a modification, the device comprises a vertical tube fitted at its lower end with a resilient tube and metal sleeve as above, the pellets being loaded in a pre-packed container into the tube and being discharged by a plunger which is operated by a pawl and ratchet arrangement.
