Abstract
849,396. Identifying burglars. TIMM, H., and MORRIS, J. April 23, 1959 [April 23, 1958], No. 13904/59. Class 5(1). [Also in Groups XXI and XXXVIII] A smoke producing antitheft device comprises a box 1 filled with a smoke producing and colouring powder, placed within a container which is to be carried, and is operated by a detonator which causes the smoke to be released when a pull is exerted on a cable 8 or when the cable is severed. The smoke contains a dye which when released will mark the objects e.g. bank notes, in the container and also the thief. The detonating equipment comprises spark gaps 11 connected via contact 7 to a battery 2. The cable 8 is insulatedly connected to a lever 9 which carries one contact 7 and a pull on the cable will cause the contact 7 to close, completing the detonator circuit. The cable 8 may be in the form of a screened conductor with the outer sheath 22 earthed so that cutting through the cable will connect the inner and outer conductors thus also completing the detonator circuit. A screw 5 bearing on the contact 4 serves as a setting switch, and pilot lamps 6 connected across the battery indicates whether the device is set.
