Abstract

827,083. Bolting; nuts, washers and nails. WILLIAMS, C. I. Feb. 13, 1956 [Feb. 17, 1955], No. 4409/56. Class 89(1) and 89(2) [Also in Group X] An anchor-bolt comprises a bolt-member 17, Fig. 1, supporting a cone 19 in engagement with a sleeve 22 consisting of two shell-halves which are moved outwardly to grip the bore wall. Bolt-member 17 may be in screwed engagement with the cone or, as shown, consist of a rod passing freely through the cone and having nuts 18, 30 at each end. The sleeve is supported by a tube 28, as nut 30 is tightened, to advance the cone into the sleeve and move the shell-halves outwardly. The halves may be held together to form the sleeve by a rubber-band in a groove therearound, or they may be integrally joined by thin wall parts, which break to separate the halves as the cone advances. The nut-and-tube may be removed after fixing the bolt, to permit the use of the bolt to secure, e.g. concrete shuttering, tunnel supports &c. Two cones 19, Fig. 6, and sleeves 21', 22" may be used on the same bolt member 42, the sleeves being either similarly or oppositely serrated. The cones may be spaced apart by a tube 44, and the bolt is used to secure a tunnel lining 47 fixed to support members 48 by double headed nails 53 which also hold a washerlike bracket 50 to the lining. The bolt member passes through the bracket and receives a nut 51. Anchor bolts are used to secure concrete shuttering 54<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 14, wherein screwed members 57 having an internal thread at one end for the bolt member are engaged by nuts 57<SP>1</SP> abutting brackets 50' which form angled seatings for the nuts. Where necessary the bolt members may have extensions 70.
