Abstract
A spray-dried granulated soap product comprises (a) 64-92 per cent of a mixture of soaps of which 1-20 per cent, preferably 6-9 per cent, consists of coconut oil soap and 99-80 per cent, preferably 94-91 per cent, consists of tallow soap, both being present suitably as the potassium or, more preferably, the sodium soaps; (b) 6-18 per cent of an alkali metal, suitably sodium or potassium, carbonate or silicate; and (c) 2-18 per cent of an alkali metal, suitably sodium or potassium, xylene sulphonate, all percentages being by weight on an anhydrous basis. The compositions, which are said to have a reduced tendency to clotting when cast into hot water, may be prepared either (1) by heating an aqueous slurry of the product at 85-100 DEG C. at atmospheric pressure and then spray-drying the slurry at a pressure of 5-20 kg. cm.-2; or (2) by heating an aqueous slurry at 85-175 DEG C. under a pressure of 5-20 kg. cm. and then spray-drying. In both cases the slurry is suitably spray-dried at an entering air temperature of 95 DEG C. Perfumes and dyes may be incorporated in the compositions.
