Abstract
808,293. Continuous-discharge mixing- machines; spheroidal graphite cast iron. INTERNATIONAL MEEHANITE METAL CO. Ltd. March 5, 1957 [May 29, 1956], No. 16628/56. Classes 72 and 86 In an apparatus for mixing powdered or granular materials and feeding them to a bath of molten metal, the materials in reservoirs 1, 1a, 1b are delivered therefrom in individually controlled quantities, by vibratory tray-type measuring conveyers 5, to a common receiver 7. Compressed gas, for example nitrogen, is supplied to the top of each reservoir through a pipe 2 and to a pressure chamber 4 which encloses the delivery ends of the reservoirs the conveyers 5 and the top of the common receiver 7, a gas flow gauge 14 and a pressure gauge 13 being provided. The materials are conveyed from the common receiver 7 by means of a pipe 8 fitted with a delivery valve 12, to a refractory tube 9 adapted to be placed in the bath of molten metal which is provided with a cover 10. In a modification the conveyers 5 are replaced by rotatable toothed wheel conveyers 16 (not shown). The apparatus may be used for the production of cast iron by the addition of alkaline earth silicides, fluorides, carbides or graphitizing agents, and also for the manufacture of spheroidal graphite cast iron.
