Abstract
806,173. Tubular connections. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 1, 1957 [April 20, 1956], No. 12105/56. Class 99(1). A metal tube 1 has a flared end 2 embedded in a fitting 3 of thermoplastic material so that material 6 on the liquid side of the part 2 is compressed against the part 2 by the pressure of a liquid passing through the coupling. The flared portion 2 may have two axially spaced circumferential series of staggered holes 4 or alternatively the flared portion may be shaped to provide channels through which the thermoplastic material flows to form a key when the fitting is moulded on the tube. The fitting which may be made of polyethylene has heating elements 7 at its other end provided with lugs 8 which connect by wires 9 to an electrical source so that a thermoplastic tube can be inserted in and welded to the fitting. The fitting may be made in sleeve, T, L or like form and is designed for resisting liquid leaks at high pressures and is made by moulding by injection or compression methods about the metal tube.
