Abstract
787,125. Heating fluids by induction. SCHORG, C. Dec. 23, 1953 [Dec. 23, 1952], No. 35819/53. Class 39(3) Liquids or gases or liquid or gaseous suspensions are heated in a vessel 1 of non- magnetic material which is surrounded by an induction coil 2 and has within it spaced from its inner walls an elongated open-ended cylinder 3 of ferro-magnetic material e.g. iron or nickel. The cylinder 3 rests on feet 4 and may also be supported from the lid of the vessel. In Fig. 3 an open-ended ferro-magnetic cylinder 7 is spaced within a cylindrical member 5 of non-magnetic material round which are placed two induction coils 6 through which A.C. is passed. A closed non-magnetic cylindrical body 9 is placed within the member 5. Liquid or gas to be heated enters at 11, passes down under the edge of the cylinder 7 heated by induction and up over a non-magnetic baffle 8 down to an outlet 12. The heating effect may be varied by varying the distribution of the turns of the induction coil or by varying the thickness of the walls of the ferro-magnetic cylinders The walls' of the apparatus may be of elliptical or of other cross section, and the thickness of the walls may vary along their length to vary the crosssectional area of the flow path. The walls may be plated with an anti-corrosive material. Several members of different thickness of walls may be used.
