Abstract
776,529. Plate heat exchangers. AKTIEBOLAGET ROSENBLADS PATENTER. Dec. 20, 1955 [Nov. 29, 1955], No. 36409/55. Class 64(3) In a plate heat exchanger having adjacent spiral passages 1, 2 for the respective fluids in which the fluid in the passage 2 flows axially between headers 3, 4, at least one of the headers is partitioned by a ring-shaped wall 11 into concentric sections 3a, 3b. and the axially open passage 2 is closed in its spiral direction by a wall 13 at a position where the header partition wall 11 crosses said passage (see Fig. 1) the arrangement being such that the axially flowing fluid makes two or more passes through the apparatus. Figs. 1 and 2 show a two-pass arrangement for the axially flowing fluid which, on entering header section 3a flows through that part of the passage 2 communicating therewith to the return header 4 from which it flows through the remaining part of the passage 2 to header section 3b and hence to outlet 8. The header 4 may have an outlet 9 for condensate. The other fluid flows spirally through the passage 1 from an inlet 5 to an outlet 6. A modification in which the axially flowing fluid makes four passes in the passage 2 is described.
