Abstract

762,213. Rotor driving arrangements. MAXWELL ETABLISSEMENT. March 18, 1954, No. 7845/54. Class 35. A centrifuge or a mixer may be separately attached to and driven by a motor adapted to run at two speeds, the arrangement being that the centrifuge is driven only at the lower speed and the mixer is driven at either speed. With the centrifuge 2 attached the motor circuit comprises a switch 6, a centrifugal governor 8 and a motor 9 so that with the switch set to position P the motor is held at the lower speed by the governor, and with the switch set to position M the motor circuit is broken. On attachment of the mixer its casing depresses a pin 14 to close a switch 12 so that with the switch 6 set at the position M the governor is shorted and the motor runs at the higher speed, and with the switch 6 set at the position P the governor is operative to limit the speed. If neither the centrifuge or mixer are attached and the switch 6 is set to the position P, the motor runs at the lower speed. An additional switch actuated by the attachment of the centrifuge or the mixer may be fitted in the circuit so that the motor will run only when the centrifuge or mixer is attached. In a modification the attachment of the mixer or centrifuge acts directly on a switch controlling the motor speed.
