Class 56 In the upward drawing of glass sheets 5, striations &c. arising from cold convection - current air impinging on the meniscus 7, are avoided by heating the air beneath the coolers 6 so that the normal convection currents are negatived by hot air from the heaters 9 rising on both sides of the coolers 6. Additional heaters 11 may be provided, and the tendency for convection currents to form may be reduced bv screens. 10. The temperature of the heaters 9. 11 is lower than that of the glass at the meniscus. The heaters may be electrical, or tubes to which a hot fluid is supplied
