Abstract
Internal combustion engine valves or valve parts, such as stems, heads, springs, casings or coatings, are made of an austentic alloy having the following composition: .C.0,08-1,5.per cent .Cr.12-30.per cent .Ni.2-35.per cent .Mn.3-12.per cent .N.0,06-0,6.per cent .Si not exceeding.0,45.per cent .Fe the remainder... Co up to 5 per cent may be substituted for part of one or more of the elements C, Ni and Mn, which are however present at least to the extent of the minimum values stated above. S up to 0,2 per cent and Mo, Ti, Cb, W, V, Cu, Ta, Al and Zr up to 2 per cent each may also be present in the alloy. The Specification refers to the heat treatment of particular alloys according to the invention and also of alloys having a lower nitrogen content by heating to 2150 DEG F. for 1 hour, water quenching and ageing at 1350-1400 DEG F.
