Abstract

Asbestos and talc are separate, without forming a colloidal dispersion of the asbestos, by treatment with an aqueous colloidal solution of a substance, such as an alkali metal silicate, casein or albumen, which when dissolved in water reduces the surface tension of the water. The suspension of asbestos and talc so formed may be utilized as such, e.g. for making asbestos cement, or the asbestos may be separated by sieving.ALSO:Asbestos and talc are separated, without forming a colloidal dispension of the asbestos, by treatment with an aqueous colloidal solution of a substance, such as an alkali metal silicate, casein or albumen, which when dissolved in water reduces the surface tension of the water. The suspension of asbestos and talc so formed may be untilized as such e.g. for making asbestos cement or the asbestos may be separated by sieving.
