Juice is extracted from bulbous fruits, roots, herbs, &c. by attachments to a mincing machine 19 in which the usual cutting knives and perforated plate are removed and a shredding cylinder 5 is clamped thereto, to which a separate pressing screw 25 is added to squeeze the shreds and so extract the juice through a perforated extraction chamber 26, clamped to the shredder housing 18 by a ring nut 20. The fruit is swept round against the shredding projections of the perforations inside the the shredding cylinder by one or more twisted blades 12 rotated by the square shank 2 of the mincer. A housing 18 surrounds the shredder, being connected, e.g. by a bayonet joint. The shredded material is passed by a separate rotated helix 24 to the pressing screw 25 also In rotating connection with the mincer screw 3. The juice drains away from a casing 30. The residual pulp is forced through apertures 33 to an expelling screw 36 the inner flat end of which, or a separate disc, is held against the aperture 33 by a spring 39. An adjustable nut 40 controls the pressure of the spring 39 so that a controlled pressure is maintained on the pulp throughout the juice extracting chamber 26. The residual pulp passes through an outlet 29. Instead of the cylindrical shredding surface 5 a flat shredding plate may be used 43, Fig. 6 (not shown). The shredded material then passes through perforations in the plate, being scraped off the back by stripper bar 52 (not shown). Instead of shredding apparatus, cutting tools may be used to cut the fruit up fine enough to be pressed in the juice extractor. Such cutting tools may be like mincer cutters 59, 60, Fig. 7 (not shown).
