Abstract

715,689. Drying clothes. PUGH, R. G. April 25, 1951 [Dec. 9, 1950], No. 9756/51. Class 34(2) Clothes drying apparatus having a closed air circulating path including a container has an aspirator jet propelling cool water longitudinally of the air path to draw air through the container and means to collect water suspended in the air after passing the jet. The clothes C are contained in a horizontally tumbling drum 20 in a casing K and drying air flows longitudinally of the drum then upwards through the open end of the drum to a duct 22 through which it is drawn by the aspirator jet 24 located at the junction of ducts 22 and 26, and cooled by the jet so that evaporated moisture condenses to join droplets of water travelling through duct 26 whence the air enters a separator 28 to produce at A3 cool air free from condensed moisture. This air stream enters an air-header 74 having fan-shaped openings 74a each covered by an electric heating element 78 through which the air passes into the drum via a screen 72 the lower half of which is covered by a semicircular baffle plate 82. Heavier lint is trapped in a U-shaped channel 94, fine lint collects on the wall of duct 26 where it is removed via access cover 98 and the very fine lint becomes entrained ,in the water droplets and is disposed of with the water from separator 28 via pump 104. The water supply to aspirator jet 24 is controlled by means of a solenoid valve 98a in pipe 96 energized through timer switch 110.
