Abstract

706,353. Attachments to vehicles for engagement by lifting hooks and the like. HOLE, S. H. March 11, 1952 [Aug. 8, 1951], No. 18656/51. Class 78 (4) Devices for engagement by lifting means such as spring- hooks or shackles are secured to the hubs of the wheels of vehicles on and by the wheelsecuring studs and nuts. The device shown in Fig. 1 comprises a ring-like body part 1 with three legs 2 each formed with a cup-shaped enlargement 5 formed with an aperture 6 adapted to fit over one of the studs securing a wheel of the vehicle. A member 3 extends across the ring 1 and is formed with a central looped portion 4 for engagement by a lifting hook or the like. The cross-member 3 is omitted in alternative constructions, one of which has four legs instead of three. In the construction of Fig. 4 a ring 10 is welded to a channel-section body 11 provided with two legs 12 disposed in the plane of the ring 10. The three-legged construction of Fig. 8 has a solid circular body 18 provided with a central projection 21 having at its free end an enlarged head 22. A bore 23 in the projection 21 receives the lifting device. So far as possible the devices are preferably made as single forgings. Where it is not possible to secure the devices to all the wheels of a vehicle, as where wheels are masked by an apron, suitable stud and nut assemblies may be provided, e.g. on the apron, to take the devices.
