Abstract

704,020. Rotary pumps. WIGG, R. E., and RUSTON & HORNSBY, Ltd. July 10, 1952 [July 16, 1951], No. 16812/51. Class 110 (2) A pumping system, supplying an internalcombustion engine, comprises an oil reservoir 1, a main pump 2 driven by the engine, an auxiliary pump 3, independently driven, whose inlet is below the oil level in the reservoir, and which delivers past a non-return valve 6 to the engine. A non-return valve 5 prevents the delivery from the pump 3 passing back to the reservoir. The pumps may supply the fuel and/or the lubrication systems of the engine which may be a gas turbine. When the pump 2 is not working, the pump 3 supplies the engine and also primes the pump 2 by way of pipes 13, 8 in which a pressure is set up, before the spring-loaded valve 6 lifts, and primes the pump 2.
