Abstract

694,817. Drafting apparatus. T.M.M. (RESEARCH), Ltd., HUNTER. W. A., BLACKBURN. R. M., and NUTTER. W. Feb. 7, 1952 [Feb. 28, 1951], No 4860/51. Class 120(ii) In drafting apparatus of the type in which a sliver passes between an endless travelling apron and a single roller, about an arc of which said apron is stretched by two spaced members, the rearmost member being a driving roller pressing against said single roller whilst the foremost member is a bar or small roller, the nose of the apron where it passes over the foremost member is adjustable in position in respect of its distance from the next following drafting rollers and the plane containing the nip of said drafting rollers and the nip of the apron driving roller to afford adjustment of the length of the arc of contact between the apron and the roller over which it is stretched. As shown, a continuous apron 17 is stretched over roller 6 and guided by a driving roller 14 and a member 15, the latter being a bar of cross-sectional shape having one axis longer than the other. Member 15 is normally stationary but may be rotated about its longitudinal axis by releasing the setscrew 25 and raised or lowered by releasing set-screw 26. The roller 14 and the other top rollers are pressed against the corresponding bottom rollers by springs such as 28 and the bearings 10 and 11 for the roller 14 and member 15 are adjustable, as to position, on the supporting arm 8. In a modification, the said bearings are carried by a common element on the arm 8 Specification 670,472 is referred to.
