Abstract
662,627. Pointing bristles by grinding. VILLAZON, R. C. G., and VEGA, E. P. Dec. 29, 1949 [Jan. 26, 1949; Jan. 27, 1949], Nos. 33234/49 and 33235/49. Class 60 A method of sharpening or pointing hairs, bristles or the like comprises subjecting the members to a combined action of pressure and restrained dragging between a rotating abrasive surface 16 and a band 17 of elastic material which moves tangentially to, and partly in contact with, the said surface. The surface 16 is in the form of abrasive material on a roller rotatably mounted in a frame 14, and the elastic band 17 is guided around rollers 18, 19, 20, 21, of which the latter three are carried at the ends of arms 23, 24, 25. The arm 25 is supported by shock absorbers 27 and the tension of the band is adjustable by a set-screw 28 co-operating with the arms 24, 25. The hairs to be pointed are clamped between strips 12, 12<SP>1</SP> of elastic material on two jaws 4, 5, the jaws 5 being pivoted on the jaw 4 and movable to clamping position against a spring 6 by a cam lever 7. The clamping unit is adapted to be moved to and from the sharpening device by means of a slide 29 and lever 30 operable mechanically or manually, and the roller 16 may be driven by an electric motor.
