Abstract
649,565. ignition magnetos. TRIGGS, W. W. (Wico Electric Co.). Nov. 16, 1948, No. 29817. [Class 35] A rotor for a flywheel magneto comprises a permanent magnet 1, one end of which forms one of three poles, while the other two poles are formed of two symmetrically arranged similar arcuate members 9 extending from one end of the magnet 1 to which they are fixed. The three-pole magnet is mounted on the inside periphery of a fly-wheel 14, e.g. by rivets 16. A deep recess 141 in the fly-wheel receives the magnet unit except for the flaring ends 9. A U-shaped stationary core having limbs 32, 33 carries the magneto coils 34, 35 on the leg 32. In a modified form, Fig. 7, the fly-wheel, which is of magnetic material, has parts 9<SP>1</SP> utilized to form pole-shoes and the permanent magnet 1<SP>1</SP> has one end in magnetic contact with the inside of the fly-wheel at a place midway between the parts 9<SP>1</SP>. The magnet unit may be die cast into the fly-wheel which, in this case, is of non-magnetic material as in Fig. 6 (not shown).
