Abstract

630,311. Ceilings. BUREAU D'ETUDES J. GRUNENWALDT & P. KIPFER, and GRUNENWALDT, J. R. O. June 28, 1946, No. 19423. [Class 20(iv)] In a floor and ceiling construction, the laths 8 and ceiling 9, interrupted short of the wall 22, are resiliently suspended by springs 5 interposed between U-shaped members 6 carrying the ceiling joists 7, and flat members 4, one for each member 6 or a continuous sheet, secured to the fixed floor joists 3; the springs 5 may be located by means of recesses in or projecting rings or bosses on the members 4 and 6; spacing sheets 10, e.g. of felt or bitumen-impregnated cardboard, prevent displacement of the members 6 during assembly and may be subsequently removed. To reduce the ceiling depth, the members 4 may be cranked upwards, or the joists 7 may be secured to the sides of the members 6; the members 4 may extend, and carry springs 5, on both sides of the joists 3, the joists 7 being carried by C-shaped members whose ends rest on the springs. The space between the ceiling and walls may be filled by resilient packing 23 or masked by a moulding.
