629,181. Shredding paper. SUNBEAM COMMERCIAL VEHICLES, Ltd., and DABBS, J. C. Jan. 14, 1947, No. 1182. [Class 31 (i)] A machine for shredding paper and the like into crinkled strips comprises a pair of parallel shafts rotated in opposite directions, each having mounted thereon a series of circular serrated cutting discs of annular configuration and flat cross-section alternating with smaller circular spacing rings of flat cross-section, the assembly being positively secured against axial displacement on its shafts, the cutting discs on one shaft being intercalated with those on the other. As shown in Fig. 1 the shaft 12 is driven from pulley 26 and the shafts 12, 13, geared together by gears 24, each carry a series of serrated cutting discs 17 separated by spacing rings 18 of smaller diameter. Each assembly of discs and rings is held between a collar 20 on the spindle and a spacing ring 31 and nut 22, and the cutting discs of each cylinder are intercalated with those of the other. Material to be shredded is placed on the table 27 and pushed between the cutting discs, the severed strips being removed by fingers 31 which project between adjacent discs of each assembly. Such fingers.are carried by cross-members 30 having flats engaged by grub screws 33. Specification 540,238 is referred to.
