Abstract

625,105. Polishing. WOLVERHAMPTON DIE-CASTING CO., Ltd., and WHITEHEAD, E. G. March 15, 1946, No. 8042. [Class 60] A process for polishing articles consists in mounting the articles 24 on a carrier 21 within a drum 15, placing small pieces of yielding material and polishing material within the drum, rotating the drum at a speed high enough to cause some of the material to pack on the inner periphery of the drum by centrifugal force while other pellets of the material are caught between the said packed material and the articles, whereby to polish the articles. The carrier, which is stationary, includes a shaft 20, extending into the drum through a removable cover 29, and having radial arms 22 secured thereto which carry the articles 24 to be polished. The inner periphery of the drum may be lined with yielding material. The apparatus may be used horizontally or vertically or in intermediate positions. The Provisional Specification states that both the drum and the carrier may rotate.
