[Class 60] A device for polishing articles comprises a hollow cylindrical drum, means for driving said drum at a relatively slow speed, means for attaching said articles to the inner periphery of said drum, closing walls at the two ends of said drum, a rotor axially mounted in said drum, radially disposed projections on said rotor and means for driving said rotor at a relatively high speed, whereby said projections throw pellets of yielding material, together with abrasive material, forcefully against said articles. A drum 9, comprising an outer casing 10 closed at its inner end by a wall 11 and an inner casing 12 closed at its outer end by a wall 13 and fitting within and clamped to the outer casing, is slowly rotated by a bevel-wheel 17 secured to the wall 11 and driven by a bevel-wheel 29 from a pulley 31. Articles 41 to be polished are carried on racks 43 secured to the inner surface of the inner drum casing 12 and are polished by pellets of felt or other 'material which, together with abrasive, are flung, by a rotor 37 having a ribbed drum part 39 and driven at a high speed by a shaft 36, against the said articles. The bevel wheel 17 to which is secured the drum 9 is integral with a sleeve 18 journalled in a bearing 19, which thus supports the drum 9, adapted to be rocked about an axis through pivots 21 by turning a hand wheel 28 which, through worm gearing, rotates a quadrant plate 22a secured, through the medium of a shaft 30a, to the bearing 19.
