[Class 35] A stationary or rotary cylindrical or annular radiallymagnetised permanent magnet for a generator, motor, or slip coupling is of low permeability material of coercive force greater than 280 Oersted and has thin polepieces of high permeability material. As shown, the polepieces 2 of the magnet 1 are skewed and may be of several strips side by side. They may be on the inner or outer periphery in the case of an annular magnet and may be flush with the surface if cast in position or if the magnet is made up of moulded pulverized material.
