[Class 80 (i)] [Also in Group XXVI] In a lubrication system for supplying lubricant to a plurality of localities disposed along the shafting of a gas turbine engine comprising internal substantially axial ducting through the shafting communicating towards one end with a delivery point for lubricant at atmospheric pressure, the bore of the ducting has change of radius with respect to the axis of rotation of the shafting so as to impel the lubricant through the shafting and the lubricant is led from the supply source to the delivery point over a path disposed externally of the shafting. The lubricant is injected from a fixed pipe 97, Fig. 2, into the bore of the shaft 63, an increase in the diameter of which at 8 causes the oil to be pressurized by centrifugal action and flow rearwardly. Passage 39 and chambers 41 and 42 pass oil from the bore to the clutch mechanism 43 and passages 44 pass oil to the bearing 46. The high - speed pinion 62 and driving serrations 64 are lubricated through passages 9 which are positioned rearwardly of another increase in the diameter of the bore. The lubricant then flows rearwardly through the tube 74, the inclined passages 80, Fig. 3, in the nut 76 to the splines 81 transmitting the power from the turbine to the compressor. From the splines, the lubricant flows to a chamber 23 and a well 26 supplying oil to the turbine bearing 25. The tube 74 is held in position by bushes 75 in the shaft 85 and by a spring-loaded flanged bush 37 in the shaft 10. The oil for the front bearing 50 is supplied from an independent source. A screw. thread may be formed on the wall of the bore adjacent to the point 8 to pick up and impel the oil rearwardly. In a modification, the tube 74 leads to a bore in the stub shaft 82 and radial holes pass the lubricant to the chamber 23.
