Abstract

Rubber latex is treated to convert the proteins to a water soluble form by keeping it in motion, preferably by stirring, at a pH of 6-8 for a sufficient time to permit the proteins to be decomposed by the action of the bacteria and enzymes naturally present in the latex, and removing the precoagulum formed in the course thereof. The process is preferably effected aerobically at elevated temperatures the precoalgulum being removed more than once if necessary. The pH may be maintained by the addition of ammonia. The treated latex which is lower both in nitrogen and in ash content may be creamed with Konnyaku meal. Specification 586,830 and U.S.A. Specifications 1,673,672 and 2,116,089 are referred to.
