Abstract
586,562. Gas turbines. HALL, J. S., JENSON, G., and METROPOLITANVICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Feb. 11, 1942, No. 1845. [Class 110 (iii)] The outer rotor of a contra-rotational turbine or air-compressor is built up within a containing shell 14 of blade rings with free inner foundation rings and outer rings of lighter section with separate spacer rings 15 between. Flanges of the spacer rings enter between the shell 14 and turned-down portions of the outer rings. The spacer rings and outer rings are coupled together by keys which lie in recesses in their peripheral surfaces and are retained therein by the containing shell. The inner rotor may be fashioned similarly to the outer rotor around an inner locating cylinder with a stepped periphery. The spacer rings are L-shaped with flanges forming bridges for the inter-blade spaces. In a modification, the blades of the outer rotor are carried by outer foundation rings which are secured with spacer rings in the manner shown. In this case, the spacer rings of the inner rotor are similar to those of the outer rotor. Specifications 586,552, 586,553 and 586,561 are referred to.
