Abstract
572,628. Ammunition belts. FRENCH & SONS, Ltd., T., FRENCH, G. F., and FRENCH, R. Dec. 19, 1938, No. 33672. [Classes 9 (i) and 92 (ii)] A cartridge belt for feeding machine guns or for use as a bandoleer comprises a flexible carrier a and cartridge clips of thin sheet metal or synthetic resin adapted at intervals to encircle the carrier, the clips being subjected to deforming pressure to fix them to the carrier and to shape them to hold the cartridges. As shown, the clip comprises a metal blank, Fig. 2, the parts b<1>, b2 of which are bent over the carrier, Fig. 6, and pressed to horseshoe shape, Fig. 7, with the portions b<3> of the wide part b<2> forming the cartridge holding clips which are open at the bottom for the passage of the ejection member on the gun. The portion b<1> of the blank may be slotted, Fig. 14, to permit of threading the carrier through the clip. The flexible carrier portions between the clips permit of ready folding of the belt, Fig. 17. If made of the usual webbing, the carrier may be reinforced by fine wire to stiffen it transversely and may be treated with anti-mildew preservative. In place of webbing, braided or knitted tape or lengths of wire or thin ribbon metal may be used.
