Abstract

578,022. Valves. ALLEY, S. E. Jan. 21, 1944, No. 1177. [Class 135] A stop valve comprises a piston 20 movable in a casing 13 having ports 19 and provided with a disc 23 of hard corrosion-resisting material adapted to close the end of the casing. A pilot valve 28 adapted to seat on the disc is carried by a stem 27, the other end of which is engaged by an actuating member 33, lost motion being provided between a flange 31 on the stem and the piston 20. The stem is movable in a bore in the piston which forms a pressure balancing passage by fluting the stem or grooving the bore. The pilot valve is adjustable on its stem and the piston 20 has a conical formation 25 to ensure that there is no substantial passage of fluid until the disc 23 is well clear of the casing 13.
