Abstract

563,699. Valves. KELLOW, C. L. May 3, 1943, No. 6931.. [Class 135] A valve adapted to be opened or closed rapidly is actuated by means comprising a rotating bridge travelling on self-locking helices and provided with a self-locking square thread engaging a hollow cylindrical bottle nut. In the form shown in the Figure, the bridge G has projections H and rollers J adapted to cooperate with two helical threads formed on the inner surface of a cylinder A secured to the valve body in place of the usual bridge. The actuating spindle K is rotatably mounted in a cover L for the cylinder and is formed with a pair of keys M engaging slots in the nut D. The nut D has a thread F engaging the bridge G and a stop collar adapted to limit relative movement when closing the valve. When opening the valve, rotary motion is transmitted to the bridge by a friction drive provided by a spring P.
