Abstract
567,824. Accumulators. CHLORIDE ELECTRICAL STORAGE CO., Ltd. (Smith, W. W.). Sept. 15, 1943, No. 15140. [Class 53] In a non-spill accumulator having a hermetically-sealed cover 11 with a gas-vent 18 closed by a gravity-operated non-spill valve 19, a second vent 21 fitted with a nipple 24 leads to an auxiliary closed reservoir 22, preferably of flexible and resilient material, e.g. rubber, to accommodate gas developed when the non- spill valve is closed. The reservoir may be supported by an extension 28 of nipple 24. In a modification, the auxiliary reservoir communicates with the bottom of the cell through a duct extending downwardly from nipple 24 and the cell may be formed with a sloping bottom, so that the duct can dip well below the battery plates and upon inversion electrolyte is not drained away from the plates.
