551,428. Purifying molasses. TRIGGS, W. W. (Standard Brands, Inc.). Dec. 30, 1941, No. 16780. [Class 127] Molasses is purified to render it more suitable for use in fermentation processes for the production of alcohol and yeast by heating it under pressure, allowing it to stand and withdrawing the supernatant liquid. The molasses may be diluted to 30 to 50‹ Balling and the pH adjusted to 4 to 6. After the pressure treatment, the molasses may be further diluted with hot water and mixed with air before being allowed to settle. The supernatant liquid may be passed through a centrifuge.
