Abstract
545,611. Aerial entanglements. PINDER, J. Dec. 28, 1940, No. 18185. [Class 9 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIII] A free-floating balloon-supported net 11, such as that shown in Fig. 4, is adapted to ride, when folded, on the cable 3 of an existing barrageballoon and to be automatically released for self suspension by a stop 7 on the cable engaging the riding ring x of the net device. As shown, the net device 11 is supported by a pilot balloon 4 carrying a pincer-like device 6 on the handle members of which rings 9 on auxiliary balloons 5 are threaded when the net device is folded as shown in Fig. 1. The auxiliary balloons 5 are connected with the pilot balloon 4 by cables 10 carrying the net 11. The pincer ring x is guided by the cable 3 and is automatically opened at the desired height by a conical stop 7 on the cable thus releasing the rings 9 so that the net device assumes the position shown in Fig. 4.
