Abstract
544,177. Electric furnaces. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. (Ferguson, J.). Jan. 31, 1941, No. 1323. [Class 39 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIII] An electric glassmelting furnace comprises a melting chamber 10 having a floor 11, provided wtith a number of carbon electrodes 14 at each end. The elongated discharge opening 18 is shorter than the width of the chamber and opens into a well 19 having a refractory block 25 which carries an electrode 29 and a die block 30 through which glass is. discharged. The temperature of the glass in the well 19 is controlled by water pipes 32. Current may pass from the electrode 29 to the electrodes at either or both ends of the furnace.
