Abstract

517,754. Closures for containers. JACKSON, H. Sept. 21, 1938, No. 27476. [Class 125 (iii)] A container for the storage of edible substances has a body 1 and a lid 2; the latter has a groove 5 round its periphery which fits closely over packing material 7 on the beaded rim 6 of the body 1. The packing material consists of a hollow india-rubber ring with contracting sides which grip the interior and exterior surfaces of the body 1 so that it is held securely in place. Four lugs 14 are arranged round the body and each has a hole for the passage of a hook ended bolt 17 which hooks over the edge of the lid and is tightened by means of the wing nut 18 to make a fluid tight joint between the lid and the body. Lock-nuts 19 may be used to co-operate with the wing nuts 18, and the lugs may have gaps for the reception of bolts hinged to the lid 2. A domestic bath or like container may be converted to use for storage purposes by placing round it a ring to which the lugs may be secured.
