Abstract

680,225. Food containers. SAUNDERS, C. W. Aug. 18, 1950 [Sept. 15, 1949; Feb. 14, 1950], Nos. 23823/49 and 3746/50. Class 49. [Also in Group XVII] As a short period packing for a perishable commodity, exemplified by fish, fruit, vegetables and ice-cream, is employed a container having vent openings and comprising a body and a cover of aluminium sheet of thickness 0.005 to 0.010 inch, preferably 0.008 inch, seamed together. It is of advantage to subject the container, after filling, to quick freezing so that at least the outer layer of the contents becomes solidified. The container of Fig. 1 has a body 1 which is rectangular in plan, has rounded corners, and has divergent opposite side walls 1a and 1b for nesting of bodies within one another. A loose lid 2 having an initially upstanding flange 2a is seated in the upper part of the body; this flange is seamed over with the marginal part of the body, as indicated at 2b. There are apertures 1c at the bottom corners of the body.
