Abstract
515,542. Oil-blast switches. FORGES & ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES DE JEUMONT. June 3, 1938, No. 16683. Convention date, June 4, 1937. [Class 38 (v) An oil-switch comprises a pair of chambers 1, 2 defined by an insulating cylinder 3 and insulating partitions 4, 5, 6, centrally apertured to receive an insulating shaft 7, through which are obliquely passed insulation - coated conducting rods 8 having end - contacts 10. On the occurrence of a fault the shaft 7 and contacts 10 are rotated through 180 degrees out of engagement with fixed contacts 11, 11 and into engagement with contacts 11<1>, 11<1>. The contacts 11, 11<1> situated in the same horizontal plane are electrically connected, and the lower contacts of chamber 1 are in series with the upper contacts of chamber 2, the extreme contacts being connected to the lines. If during the short time taken for the contacts 10 to change over the cause of the @ault, for example, an arcing-ground, falling branch &c. has disappeared, the circuit is reestablished without synchronous machines having had time to fall out of step. If the fault persists, a second breaker may be arranged to clear it, or the same breaker may, after a timeinterval, operate in the same direction as before, or in the reverse direction. Preferably the drive is arranged so that the shaft is stopped in an intermediate position after a second opening has occurred. Longitudinal and radial oilblast openings 12<1>, 12 are provided in the chambers 1, 2, respectively, so as to ensure complete rupture of the circuit during the change over. The Specification refers also to shaft-rotations of less and more than 180 degrees and to the use of one chamber only. Two horizontal chambers may be separated by a common, verticallyarranged, driving mechanism and bevel gearing.
