Abstract
503,619. Thermal switches. SHERLOCK, J. E., and BRITISH THERMOSTAT CO., Ltd. Oct. 12, 1937, No. 27732. [Class 38 (v)] A thermal switch comprises a fixed contact 1 carried by a light spring 14 attached to a resilient plate 2 fixed to a bracket 3. The movable contact 8 is carried on a bimetallic strip 9 fixed to a bracket 10, and carrying an armature 12 which co-operates with a permanent magnet 13 on the plate 2 to give a snap-action. The 'operating temperature is varied by rotation of a spindle 7 carrying a face cam 6 which engages a stud 8 to move ptate 2 towards and away from the base. When spindle 7 is turned to an extreme position, stud 8 falls into a recess 16a and circuit cannot be made since an extension 9b of the strip 9 first engages a stop 16. The temperature range can be varied by flexing bracket 10 by means of a screw 18. A modification is described in which two movable contact arms engage two contacts on a common plate 2 having a single adjusting cam.
