500,810. Hydraulic shock absorbers. BAYERISCHE MOTOREN WERKE AKT.- GES. Sept. 1, 1938, Nos. 25617 and 25618, Convention dates, Nov. 2, 1937 and Nov. 16, 1937. [Class 108 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXI] A liquid shock-absorber for a telescopic spring fork for motor-cycles, of the type having on each side an outer tube 4 sliding over a fixed inner tube 1 under the control of a spring 8, comprises a tube 19 secured at its lower end to the tube 4 by means of a screw plug 20 and nut 21. A piston rod 25 is fixed at its upper end to a screw cap 26 on the tube 1, and passes through a guide member 23 secured by a clamping-spring 22, its lower end being provided with a flexible one-way valve 27 and a guide ring 28. When the fork tube 4 and the tube 19 move upwards, the valve 30 opens until arrested by a stop-pin 30, and liquid passes through passages 33 on the periphery of the ring 28 and through the valve 27. When the fork tube 4 moves downwards, the valve 27 closes, and liquid is forced slowly through the bore 24 of the guide member 23, the liquid which collects above the latter flowing over the upper edge of the tube 19 back into the lower part of the tube 4. At the same time, liquid passes into the bottom of the tube 19 through ports 32 and a one-way flexible valve 31.
