Abstract
481,972. Locks. KAYE & SONS, Ltd., J., and COOPER, S. Sept. 30, 1936, No. 26467. [Class 44] An hotel latch, having a bolt B operated from the inside by a handle through a follower S<1> and from the outside by means of a key through the tail-piece T, has a lever L which is not acted upon by the ordinary key but when operated by a master key enables the latch lock to be check-locked. A stub T<1> co-operates with the projection B<1> to withdraw the bolt and in conjunction with the stub T<2> enables the notches L4 in the ordinary levers to lock the tail-piece T. The ordinary key only operates to withdraw the tail-piece- T and the bolt B, its bits not acting on the lever L. The master key operates the lever L as well as the other levers so that the tail-piece T may be shot and the stub T<1> will contact with another projection B<2> on the bolt B to hold it out, Fig. 2. The nose of the lever L as well as those of the ordinary levers will fall behind the stub T2 and render the tail-piece T rigid. The pillar L<7> prevents the levers falling too low and assists the lever pivot L<6> to take any pressure on the tail-piece. The ordinary key cannot now unlock the door until the master key has been used as it has no effect on the lever L. The elongated slot L5 permits the tail-piece T to be moved back although the lever L is not operated. The curves L2, L<3> are cut to suit the bits of the key and to make these levers reversible. The bolt B is also made reversible. Specification 355,618 is referred to.
