Abstract
460,612. Feeding webs. AMERICAN MACHINE & FOUNDRY CO. Jan. 27, 1936, No. 2478. Convention date, Oct. 19, 1935. [Class 100 (i)] Means for supporting a reel of wrapping material in a wrapping machine comprises a spindle to which the reel may be secured to move axially therewith, and a support for the spindle leaving one end thereof free for the passage thereover of the reel, the spindle and support being so arranged that by grasping the free end of the spindle, it may be axially slidably displaced in the support to adjust the position of the reel. In one form, Figs. 1, 2, the spindle 10 is supported by the bracket 13 by resting on a V-block 15 and engaging with its upper surface with the cap 12 of a bearing 11. In this position the spindle is clear of a V-block 11<a> in the bearing 11. By raising the free end of the spindle, its other end is brought into engagement with the block 11<a> and the spindle can be moved freely for side adjustment of the reel R. The core of the reel is supported by members 19 supported by ball bearings on conical members 16, 26 which are respectively fixed to the spindle 10 by a set screw 23 and pin 64. A friction washer 33 adjustable by a nut 21 serves to brake the unwinding of the reel. In a modification, Fig. 4, the inner end of the spindle is supported by a ball bearing 40 resting in a concave bed .44, and a ball bearing 41 engaging an overhanging arch member 43. In a further modification the spindle is slidably mounted in a tubular support fixed at one end and provided with slots for the passage of the pin 64 and set screw 23.
