Abstract
451,292. Plug couplings. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and COATES, H. J., c/o General Electric Co., Ltd., Witton, Birmingham. March 8, 1935, No. 7338. [Class 38 (i)] A plug-and-socket type coupling for withdrawable switchgear &c. comprises a number of spring-pressed bars 10 that contact with two separable members 1, 2, one attached to the metal-clad switchgear &c. and the other to the bus-bars. The bars 10 are each riveted at one end 13 to a spring 12 that bears centrally on a loosely mounted cage 11 and at both ends on the bar 10. The spring is bent to form a foot resting on a flange 14 on the member 2, and beneath the flange is loosely held the inturned edge of the cage 11, the upper end of which is fitted with a flange 20 that confines the extended end of the spring 12. An insulating sleeve 7 attached to the member 1 surrounds the coupling. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), a double set of bars 10 is provided engaging the outside and inside of tubular contacts corresponding to the members 1, 2.
