Abstract
455,283. Cooling wearing - apparel. THELLAND, J. LE G., 1, Parker's Building, Burg Street, Cape Town, South Africa. April 15, 1935, No. 11582. [Class 141] [See also Group XXVIII] A miner's lumber jacket a or a wrapper of fabric material is provided with a container g for a refrigerant, such as solid carbon-dioxide, and tubes k leading therefrom through the material of the garment to cool the wearer. The material preferably comprises outer non- porous layers and an intermediate layer of double-blown kapoc or cotton or other porous insulating material, and the tubes are preferably of flexible material, for example, interwoven cotton and aluminium thread with rigid rings at intervals to prevent collapse of the tubes. The tubes are located within the intermediate layer of material and may be perforated at intervals to allow the refrigerant vapour to pass into the material. Alternatively, a closed or perforated tube may be connected at both ends to the refrigerant container. In the case of a jacket, the waist and sleeves may be provided with elastic or leather bands c, d to prevent escape of refrigerant vapour to the atmosphere. Valves l may be provided on the container.
