[Class 81 (ii)] Gas-masks are made, in the form of a bag, wholly or mainly of transparent sheet regenerated cellulose or other similar material such as cellulose acetate. As shown, the mask is made from two shaped sheets sealed together along their contacting edges. The sheets are rendered waterproof if necessary by coating with a cellulose derivative or the like. The lower edges may be turned up and sealed to form a tube 2 which may be inflated by the wearer, to seal the mask around the neck, through a regenerated cellulose or other tube 3, containing a non-return valve. A regenerated cellulose or other tube 4 sealed into the mask contains cotton wool or other gasfiltering material, and may contain an inhaling valve, exhaled air escaping past the neck seal. The eyepieces may be formed by flattened portions of thicker material or regenerated cellulose rings may be cemented to the mask and the usual " unbreakable glass " eyepieces may be adhesively secured between the rings and the mask. The tube 2 may be wholly or partly filled with cotton wool or other padding and the mask may be shaped more closely to fit the head and may be provided with a slit at the rear or side closable by a sliding-clasp fastener which may also have padding.
