Abstract

454,499. Colour photography. KODAK, Ltd., Kingsway, London.-(Eastman Kodak Co. ; 343, State Street, Rochester, New York, U.S.A.) March 29, 1935, No. 9870. Addition to 427,520. [Class 98 (ii)] In the method of processing a photographic element consisting of several superimposed layers containing different colour separation records in silver salt, on a single support as in the parent Specification, which includes developing all the layers to one colour and bleaching the upper layers with an agent capable of destroying the colour and transforming the silver into a developable salt and in which loading agents are used to control the diffusion of the bleaching agent, the loading agents are substances which produce an anti-swelling effect either by increasing the viscosity of the solution of rendering it repellent to the gelatin. Suitable agents for the process are sugar, water soluble cellulose derivatives, higher alcohols containing more than two carbon atoms such as normal and isopropyl alcohol, butyl alcohol or amyl alcohol, ketones such as acetone, alkyl- or alkyloxy-amines acetylated or not, e.g. methyl-, ethyl-, propyl- or triethanolamine, acetamide, N-methyl acetamide, polyhydric alcohols such as glycol, ethylene. or propylene glycol, glycerol, or dihydroxyethylether, colloids, e.g. gelatin, gum, glue, dextrin, gum arabic, gum tragacanth, flour, or arrowroot, and inert salts such as sodium chloride and potassium sulphate. Examples are given of bleach baths containing (1) quinone, methyl alcohol, HC1, sugar, and sodium chloride; (2) quinone, HC1, glycerin, and isopropyl alcohol; and (3) quinone, HC1, and ethylene glycol ; and of a stop bath of sodium bicarbonate, glycerin, and isopropyl alcohol. Specifications 427,472, 427,518, 440,032, 440,089, 447,092, and 454,498 are referred to.
