444,658. Wrapping-machines. NAYLOR, W. H., 20, The Drive, Adel, Leeds, and DAY & SONS, Ltd., J., Beeston Royds Works, Leeds. Nov. 16, 1934., No. 33037. [Class 94 (i)] Powders are enclosed in wrappers to form flat packets. The wrappers are fed in succession on to a platform 11 having a slot 12 through which they are forced by a blade 13 to form a trough having unequal sides 14, 15. Grippers 16, 17 maintain the edges in position on the blades while the trough of paper is lowered between grippers 19, 20, which close upon the ends. A number of pairs of grippers are mounted on an intermittently rotating platform 26, which carries them to a succession of stations. At the filling station, a delivery funnel 27 is swung to engage the higher upstanding portion 15 of the wrapper, and delivers a charge of powder into the trough. At the next two positions, successive longitudinal folds are made in the upper part of the wrapper by any known mechanism. At the next station, the grippers rotate about their shanks 18 to fold the ends of the trough transversely, and, finally, a gripper lifts the folded packet off the grippers 19, 20 and transfers the packet into a horizontal position beneath a pressing plate.
