Abstract

431,041. Purifying water. LARSEN, L., 2, Prinsensgate, Oslo, Norway. Feb. 12, 1935, No. 4441. [Class 46] [See also Group VI] Water from a fish tank is passed through a pump, where it is aerated and thence to a venting tank in which the lighter impurities are carried with the air bubbles to the surface for withdrawal from the circuit while the heavier impurities settle on the bottom. In one arrangement the water passes over a weir 5, Fig. 1, in the fish tank 2, through a water ring pump 8 to the venting tank 1 via a horizontal distributing pipe 11. The perforations of the pipe 11 are directed away from a flush sill 12 to allow time for the heavy impurities to settle. After passing over the flush sill 12 the water is led off at a suitable level and passed back to the fish tank via a conduit 3. In a modification the water is drawn out of the fish tank via a flat pipe 32 and is passed over an inclined sill 12. It then passes through a pair of flush sills 26, 27 and back to the fish tank via channels 29. Alternatively, the water may be passed into the fish tank at the top.
